expectant moms
As an expectant mom you have so many reasons to smile! While you are pregnant you know it’s important to take good care of yourself, so don’t forget to make a healthy mouth one of your priorities. Having good oral hygiene is more important than ever for both you and your baby. Your dental hygiene appointments and restorative dental work are safe and important while your baby is developing. Make sure to see a dental professional as soon as you know you are pregnant, and let them know you are expecting.

During pregnancy, there is an increased level of hormones which can impact your teeth and gums and increase your risk for dental infection. Pregnancy gingivitis occurs when these hormones cause your gums to have a stronger than usual reaction to the plaque on teeth. This reaction can put you at risk for sensitive gums that may become swollen and bleed when you brush or floss. As with all oral hygiene, it is all about brushing and flossing away the bacteria that live in the plaque. Those are the germs that cause gingivitis, periodontal disease (gum disease) and cavities.
